Officially founded in 1889, the story of AP actually begins in the 1870's, when two young men named Jules Audemars and Edward-August Piguet first established the partnership that eventually became Audemars Piguet. In 1972, after almost 100 years of watchmaking, the company introduced it's distinctive Royal Oak model, designed by the influential Gerald Genta. Named after three ships of the British Royal Navy, The Royal Oak features an iconic octagonal "porthole" bezel. In 1993 AP further cemented its place in the hearts of watch enthusiasts worldwide with the debut of the Royal Oak Offshore line.
