The PAM188 white dial daylight Chronograph is a very rare, discontinued and sought after 44mm daylight chronograph. What makes the PAM188 so special is that it was made for only 3 years in G-H and I series in very limited quantities and continues to be the only 44mm white dial automatic Panerai ever made...period-end of story. The watch was discontinued in 2007, the last year they made it was for I series and at that same time, Panerai introduced the crème or off-white dial PAM251 Daylight. The PAM251 has a completely brushed look; the bezel is matte satin brushed finish as is the crown protector and case. Effective for the J series, the PAM188 was discontinued and replaced by the PAM251.

To me, the PAM188 seems to be more bold and versatile. The PAM188 with its white dial, shiny bezel and black alligator strap can be easily worn with anything; it is easily dressed up with a conservative dark suit, tuxedo, or as easily dressed down when worn with shorts, slacks, jeans, etc. The PAM251 is more in the styling and look of the AP Offshore Safari. The PAM251 with its all matte/brushed finish and ivory dial takes on a decidedly more casual look and feel. The off-white dial and tobacco brown alligator strap on the PAM251 lends itself to looking great with natural and earth tone colors in a casual environment or with blue jeans or khakis. Where the PAM251 doesn’t work is for formal occasions or a dark conservative suit.
